Ancient Treasures of Shu Shine in Hengqin: The Mystique of Sanxingdui and Jinsha Captivates Audiences

The special exhibition Ancient Treasures of Shu: Sanxingdui and Jinsha attracted more than 300,000 visitors, including nearly 60,000 from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, making up almost 20% of the total audience.

On April 24, the three-month exhibition successfully concluded at the Hengqin Arts and Cultural Center, sparking a cultural wave across the Greater Bay Area as visitors flocked to explore the mysteries of the ancient Shu civilization.

A Grand Cultural Celebration: Diverse Voices Witnessing Ancient Civilization

As a special tribute to the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to China, the exhibition was co-hosted by the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, and the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, with support from the Macao Foundation, China Poly Group, and others.

Since its public opening on February 2, the exhibition has garnered massive attention. Residents of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as visitors from across China and abroad, poured in to experience the wonders of ancient Shu. Numerous schools from the region also organized educational field trips, with nearly 10,000 students engaging in immersive learning activities. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds gathered to witness this cultural feast.

Highlighting the Essence of Ancient Shu: A Gathering of Rare Treasures

The exhibition featured 163 cultural relics (sets) from six major institutions, including the Sanxingdui Museum, Sichuan Museum, Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum, Chengdu Museum, Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, and Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. Among them, 36 artifacts were designated as Grade I national treasures.

Many newly excavated artifacts from Sanxingdui made their public debut, with standout pieces such as the bronze human head with gold mask, bronze mask with protruding eyes, and bronze serpent becoming instant crowd favorites.
