On May 18th 2021, Top 10 featured exhibitions awards in 2020 were announced on the opening ceremony for the celebration of 45th International Museum Day. The touring exhibition Floating lights and shadows, 500 years of European painting won the award of Best international collaboration.
The award-winning exhibition displayed 60 pieces of precious artworks from Indianapolis Museum of Art. These masterpieces drawn by great artists like Titian, Rubens, Van Dyke, Rembrandt, Goya, Monet revealed the history of European fine arts. The exhibition has toured around several cities in China. Chengdu was the last stop.
The exhibited artworks were very sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations. To meet the stringent conservation standards set by the lending Museum, Chengdu Museum displayed all paintings in museum showcases of international standards, manufactured by Relicase.
Chengdu Museum dedicated great efforts to the curating. From planning to exhibition, through color design to showcase selection, every detail was carefully arranged to exert vivid experience of classic aesthetics.
What is more, the curator went to great length studying the background of each single piece. Living environment of painters and hidden stories of paintings were cleverly infused into the narratives. Audience were easily drawn back to the scene of a painting and affected by the emotions of the painter. Wondering in the exhibition hall of Floating lights and shadows, 500 years of European painting, one can drift in the sea of art, feel the pulse of society and get to know the evolution of European painting.
