As per the architect I. M. Pei's specifications, the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha is built on an island off an artificial projecting peninsula near the traditional Dhow harbor.

Upon finishing his project for Suzhou Museum, Pei set out on his journey to the Middle East immediately . He toured around in Islamic regions like Tunisia and Egypt for months, where he studied traditional architectures and formed his unique understandings of the Islamic style. Which he turned into the significant structure of Museum of Islamic Art, Doha after 2 years work. ‘It was one of the hardest job I ever took.’,Pei put it. This last piece of his large-scale public cultural architecture career turned out to be the most comprehensive museum on Islamic art to date, fully demonstrating the essence of Islamic culture.
